Olga Gogulya
Watercolor artist
Exhibition at Skolkovo, 2025 · 3rd place at Russian Art Week, 2025 · Works in private collections worldwide
I paint landscapes in watercolor — mountains, the sea, northern skies and the cities I have been lucky to visit. Every painting is one of a kind.
I chose watercolor because it cannot be forced. Paint spreads across wet paper the way it wants, and the artist's job is not to fight it but to come to terms with it in time. That is why no painting can ever be repeated.
Most of my work is painted from life. “Rosa Peak” was painted on a viewing platform 2,320 metres up; “Before the Storm” at a plein air in Kyrgyzstan, where we ran from a downpour, barely grabbing our backpacks. Such paintings keep what studio work never has: wind, cold, haste, and light that is different half an hour later.
I take part in exhibitions in Russia and abroad.
My paintings live in private collections around the world — and it still feels like a small miracle to me: someone on the other side of the globe wakes up every morning to a piece of light I caught on Rosa Peak.
