Why is watercolor my way of talking about the world?

A watercolor landscape with soft hills, a misty valley and trees in the foreground; morning, a light atmosphere and a sense of calm. Interesting facts about art

For me, watercolor is not just a technique. It is breath, flow, a state of being. I always say that watercolor lives a life of its own — you can never fully control it, and that is exactly where its beauty lies.

When I pick up a brush and a clean sheet of cotton paper, I never know exactly where the water will take me. But I know it will be a journey — into an emotion, a mood, a memory. I do not simply paint houses, trees, streets and horizons. I try to convey what is elusive: the light in a window, the smell of a summer morning, the feeling of silence in the mountains.

Why watercolor?

I have tried different materials, but only with watercolor do I feel this sense of dialogue. It is always a bit of a game, a bit of a dance. It demands attention, respect and gentleness — and in return it gives incredible depth and light. It is very feminine. Very much about nature. Very much about the soul.

A painting as a journey

Many of my works are born from journeys — real and inner ones. I have travelled a lot around Europe; I love architecture, narrow streets, old houses, cosy courtyards. When I paint, it is as if I am walking those streets again. And I want the viewer to walk that path with me.

I believe that a painting can do more than decorate an interior — it can change a person’s mood and state of mind and bring them back to themselves. Especially if it is filled with real feeling.

On honesty in art

It matters to me that every work is sincere. No templates, no copies, no “shoulds”. Only what truly resonates inside. Perhaps that is why my paintings resonate with women who have a delicate perception of the world and a love of travel, silence and beauty.

That is why I keep going — despite pauses, difficulties and searching. Because watercolor is my way of life, my way of talking about the world, about love, about beauty.
